Q: I’m new to finding a job in America, what should I do?

If you’re an Australian exploring the U.S. job market, the first step is to get the foundations right before applying.

Most Australians struggle not because they lack experience, but because the U.S. job search works very differently.

Most U.S. employers don’t know how to sponsor an Australian on the E 3 visa. When you apply for jobs and select that you “need sponsorship” you get filtered out from the start. Australians also tend to use their CV without going through the process of properly “Americanizing” their resume and LinkedIn.

This is why many Aussies spend months applying online with little to no response.

Before worrying about job applications, make sure you have these 3 things in place:

• A US ready resume and LinkedIn profile that matches American expectations

• Clarity on which roles are a fit for you in the U.S. market

• A strategy for getting referrals

All of this we can help you with. Get started:

Join the Aussie Recruit Talent Network so you’re on our radar for E 3 friendly roles

You do not need to do everything at once. The goal early on is clarity and direction, not volume of applications.

Q: What types of roles do you work with and do you have a jobs board?

We work with U.S. companies across a wide range of industries, including tech and non tech, startups and established firms.

Roles vary by function, seniority, and location depending on employer needs at the time. We do not operate a traditional jobs board or advertise a fixed list of open roles.

Instead, when you join the Talent Network your profile is reviewed and if a role aligns with your background, experience, and location preferences, you will be contacted directly with details.

If there is no immediate match, you will still receive guidance and resources to help you run a stronger U.S. job search independently.

Q: What happens after I join the Aussie Recruit Talent Network?

After joining, you will receive a welcome email, ongoing job search tips, and updates from us.

If a role comes up that matches your background and interests, we will contact you directly with details.

Q: Will you share my resume with employers?

Only with your permission.

You can choose to keep your profile confidential. We will always check with you before sharing your resume or details.

Q: Is it free to use Aussie Recruit?

Joining and remaining in the Talent Network is completely free for jobseekers. You do not pay us a finders fee if we help you get a job.

Q: How do you connect candidates with jobs?

When you join the Talent Network, your profile is reviewed by Aussie Recruit. If a job opportunity we’re working on aligns with your background and preferences, we will reach out to you directly with details.

At that point, you decide whether the role is of interest. If you want to move forward, we support you through the interview process. All companies we work with are E-3 visa friendly and want to sponsor your visa.

If there is no immediate match, you remain in the Talent Network and continue receiving guidance to help you run a stronger U.S. job search independently.

Q: How can I get feedback on my resume?

U.S. employers are not used to Australian CVs. Format, language, and positioning significantly affect your chances of getting interviews. We offer two options to help you with this:

  • (Do it yourself) Supercharge Your Search: A structured five step system to help you land a job in the U.S., including building a U.S. ready resume and LinkedIn profile.

  • (Do it together) 1:1 coaching: Personalized resume feedback and job search support tailored to your situation.

We’re more than just a recruiter, we’re your job search partner in the US. While we’ll reach out if a role matches your profile, many Aussies need extra support. That’s why we offer a full suite of resources to help you take control of your search, stand out to US employers and make the E-3 visa work for you:

Q: What is the E-3 visa?

The E 3 visa is a professional work visa available only to Australian citizens. It is an employer sponsored visa, which means you need a job offer first.

Most U.S. employers have never heard of the E 3 visa. When employers see the word “sponsorship,” they often assume H 1B and filter candidates out before a conversation happens.

The E 3 is different:

• It is exclusive to Australians

• Processing is relatively fast

• Employer costs are low

• It is renewable in two year increments

• Spouses can work

Employers only need to provide a job offer and basic paperwork. With the right explanation, the E 3 can be one of the simplest visas for employers to support.

Your success in the U.S. job market often comes down to how well you position yourself and how confidently you navigate the E 3 conversation.

You can learn more about the E 3 visa and common questions here.

Q: Can you help me if I’m not Australian or don’t need a visa?

Yes!

While Aussie Recruit specializes in Australians using the E 3 visa, we have also supported candidates with permanent residency, U.S. citizenship, and other work visas.

Anyone is welcome to join the Talent Network. If a role aligns with your background, we will reach out.

Q: How do I answer “Do you need visa sponsorship?” on a job application?

This question filters out many Australians, and it is one of the most common points where people get stuck.

Marking “yes” is technically correct if you need an E 3, but many employers assume H 1B and reject the application.

Marking “no” is inaccurate and can create issues later in the process.

There is a more strategic way to approach this question. We’ll show you how to overcome this question and get into interviews inside our online course, Supercharge Your Search.

Q: What should I say when an interviewer asks “Do you need visa sponsorship?”

This question can determine whether an interview continues or ends early.

Many Australians answer too simply and unintentionally shift focus away from their skills and experience.

There is a way to explain the E 3 visa clearly while keeping the emphasis on your value first.
