More than 1,000 Australians registered for this emergency update in 48 hours, and over 500 joined us live on September 9. The session was filled with thoughtful questions from the community, reflecting just how important and urgent these visa changes are for Australians living and working in the U.S. or preparing to make the move.
On September 6, 2025, the U.S. Department of State announced that nonimmigrant visa applicants should schedule interviews in their country of nationality or residence. In practice, this may mean the long-used option to interview in a third country is now very limited.
The Department also recently tightened interview waiver eligibility, which raises the odds that most Australians will need an in-person interview.
Australia’s ABC News covered how these changes are affecting E-3 visa holders and seekers, highlighting our free information session and featuring comments from Jonathan Grode.
The E-3 visa remains an important symbol of the strong relationship between Australia and theUS and while these updates add new steps, we continue to be positive about its future.
This is a changing landscape. Policies may continue to shift, and each consulate may apply the rules differently. Please make sure you check for the most up-to-date information. Register for our September 30th session to stay informed on the latest E-3 updates.
