Hana from Melbourne landed a Corporate Partnership Director job in North Carolina on an E-3 Visa!

“I didn't think it would be possible for me to ever move to the USA” says Hana.

But she made it happen! We love celebrating fellow Australians landing their jobs in the US. We asked Hana about some of her top job searching tips for fellow Australians.

3 top US job-searching tips for fellow Australians

1. Before applying, take the time to learn all about the E-3 visa

Hana spent time educating herself on the E-3 Visa. She used the resources on our website to learn all about the visa and the process. Armed with this knowledge, she was ready to pitch the E-3 visa to potential employers.

2. Try to get comfortable selling yourself and the visa

Hana emphasizes the importance of selling yourself in the US market. Also selling the simplicity of the visa process to potential employers. In Australia, we’re not used to putting ourselves on a pedestal and showing off our achievements. This is a big difference between the US and Australia. Embrace talking about yourself and being proud of your achievements. There’s no “tall poppy syndrome”. People love to lift each other up in the US.

3. Reach out to hiring managers on LinkedIn

After you apply for a position take the extra step to contact the Hiring Manager on LinkedIn. Most candidates don’t do this. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring attention to your application. Take initiative and be proactive.

Last but not least, we asked Hana...

What do you think you'll miss most about Australia?

“The beaches - I always lived on the beach and am going to miss having one at my doorstep (and of course my family and friends).”
